Subject: CCOF Foundation's Bricmont Hardship Assistance Fund - applications due 12/3

If you—or an organic producer you know—have experienced hardship during the 2018 calendar year, we encourage you to apply for financial assistance through the Bricmont Hardship Assistance Fund. Applying is easy—complete the application by December 3, 2018.

Throughout the nation, farmers are experiencing severe economic losses as the results of extreme weather patterns, an increase in duration and number of natural disasters, and financial challenges. Now, more than ever, farmers need access to immediate and long-term financial support to prepare for and recover from natural disasters and economic loss.

Each year, the CCOF Foundation responds to crises like these by offering economic assistance to organic farmers, processors, and handlers who have experienced financial loss due to extreme hardship. Over the past eight years, over 150 certified organic businesses across the country have received

Here's the full article (thanks, Kimberly!):

USDA makes nearly $2 billion available for farmers and ranchers affected by wildfires and hurricanes

The USDA has announced that agricultural producers affected by hurricanes and wildfires in 2017 now may apply for assistance to help recover and rebuild their farming operations. Sign-ups began July 16, 2018 and will continue through November 16, 2018.

“Hurricanes and wildfires caused billions of dollars in losses to America’s farmers last year. Our objective is to get relief funds into the hands of eligible producers as quickly as possible,” said USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue. “We are making immediate, initial payments of up to 50 percent of the calculated assistance so producers can pay their bills.”

Additional payments will be issued, if funds remain available, later in the year.

The program, known as the 2017 Wildfires and

Subject: Seeking a committed visionary partner and keen investor

Buck Mountain Forest Gardens is a magnificent 20-acre site in the heart of the Carmel Valley, and prime for becoming a living sanctuary and community landmark dedicated to the legacy of regenerative agriculture. We're seeking a committed visionary partner and keen investor to develop an ecological retreat center for family cultural and corporate events, as well as an educational farm center for sustainable land management practices. The ideal partner will have experience in sustainable land stewardship, cultivating cooperative relationships and developing viable templates for progressively growing restorative economies, ecologies, and communities -- willing to invest in real places, people and local micro enterprises.

The http://walnuts.org should take you to the California Walnut Commission and the California Walnut Board. The commission has a newsletter and is on Facebook. The local UC extensions have walnut meetings in the spring, so contact your local extension office. If you sell commercially, a portion of your sales go to these organizations, which do a great job of promoting walnuts and supporting research.

Hello, as a new farmer in San Diego, I am trying to build a farm using sustainable and environmentally conscious practices. I am working with NRCS and other groups to learn and set strategies. I am currently looking for any information regarding using sustainable, reclaimed supplies for Vineyard trellis systems and management. We are open to hosting research projects on the farm.

Thanks in advance for your time and information.

Subject: Looking for tree crop growers interested in on-farm research

Hi all

There is much buzz about carbon farming, soil health and regenerative agriculture this year, and many farmers (and researchers) are interested in developing on-farm soil carbon and soil health monitoring.

I'm interested in finding someone interested in developing regenerative agricultural practices on their existing orchard (focusing on citrus, avocado or almond but open to others) in order to set up some medium term (2-5+ year) monitoring projects modelling soil-building practices. These might include compost application (as per the Marin Carbon Project: http://marincarbonproject.org); intensively managed/short-rotation grazing; intercropping, covercropping and alley cropping; alternative irrigation practices; or other methods depending on the goals of landowner and research potential of the site.

A bit about me: my background is in evolutionary ecology (BSc., MSc.), but I grew up farming and

This sounds like a very good starting point for a lot of contemporary 'aggies'. Some terms are new, but the sound of regenerative suggests a 'sustainable' tone to it. I would love to open up interest in worm castings as part of that process. I've been a small scale worm farmer for 18 years now and haven't seen enough commitment to the principles that Elaine Ingham has framed in her studies about soil health and fertility. If you have the desire to follow the health of the soil below the surface, please get in touch with me at PJ Dunn Working Red Worms in Galt, CA.

I'm sure that the process that occurs in the transformation of compost to castings involves carbon AND regeneration. We sell castings and worms and can provide education to get anyone started in turning their farm waste into mother nature's best and most well balanced fertilizer! Alternative is no longer a 'dirty' word, it is just

Subject: Grants for on-farm water conservation & financial assistance for conservation buffers

On-Farm Water Conservation Grants, Due March 30, 2016:
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) is now accepting grant proposals for up to $300,000 for on-farm water use efficiency training and technical assistance programs. These funds are well-suited for outreach, training, and educational efforts that work directly with growers to maximize the efficient on-farm use of irrigation equipment.

Importantly, the guidelines explicitly state that technical assistance grants can be designed to complement CDFA SWEEP grants by assisting growers with project design and efficiency potential for SWEEP applications and to provide training and education for SWEEP recipients to maximize operation of SWEEP-funded technologies/equipment.

CalCAN and CAFF advocated to ensure that the final granting guidelines encourage these types of projects. DWR has made a significant effort to open the solicitation to training and
