Headline: Vintage dairy equipment, farm tools, antique machinery and vehicles, artifacts for display

As part of a collaboration between our school district and local wastewater treatment agency, we are restoring a historic dairy (est. 1890) which recently earned a spot on the CA and national historic registries for its pioneering efforts in the dairy industry. Our goal is to create a living history venue for elementary school field trips as well as to create dairy, poultry, farm machinery, and farmhouse museums on the property. Additionally, there will be outdoor exhibits covering such topics as pollination, tree life cycles, wind power, composting, resource management, and gardening. The property will feature farm plots cared for my local high school programs, hand-on kitchen gardens and heirloom orchard, an active henhouse, etc. Unifying themes throughout the site will be agricultural career exploration, the evolution of technology, and sustainability. We are seeking artifacts to display in the

Headline: Tools: shovels, hoes, hammers, trowels, and rock bars

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for tool donations! Have any used tools that you've been looking to get rid of? We'll come pick them up. We could really use shovels, hoes, hammers, trowels, and rock bars.

The tools would go to our non-profit STRAW Program (STRAW stands for Students and Teachers Restoring A Watershed). Our program works with local school kids and community volunteer groups to plant trees, shrubs, and grasses for multi-benefit restoration projects that address flooding and erosion concerns as well as improve agriculture infrastructure and wildlife habitat. We are happy to report that our program is growing and we are working with larger groups spanning a greater area, hence the need for more tools!

Thank you!

Jenni Benson

Headline: a dairy cow that has freshened or will by june

somehow the bull missed our holstein when we bred everyone this past fall. as part of our summer camp program, we - the campers and counselors - hand milk our cow during morning and evening chores - more details about camp at the website "farm camp @ plantation".

ideally we'd borrow your easy to handle dairy cow for the summer. i can pick her up and bring her back home.

alternatively, we would consider purchasing her. if we were borrowing her, we'd like her to come to our place the first week of june and return home the middle of august.

Headline: Lost Anatolian Shepherd Dog

Our 92 lb spayed female Anatolian Shepherd Dog disappeared Monday night, Jan. 23 in NorthWest Marin county, on Pt. Reyes Petaluma Rd overlooking the reservoir. She has ID tag and is micro-chipped. 10 months old, active and athletic. Short hair, light tan with black muzzle and ears, white feet and chest. Very friendly with people and dogs. This is a main road for area commuters, and we have combed the area--no sightings, no injured dogs. We think someone driving east picked her up and is keeping her as a pet or farm dog or guard dog. She could be anywhere in California. She is very much missed and reward offered!

(Interesting how social media has changed the search for a lost dog!)

All is well--Karakus turned up in a neighbor's vacation home on Saturday afternoon--8 lbs lighter, alhough It's clear that she did not spend the entire 4 1/2 days locked in there. If only dogs could speak!

Thanks for all your concern.

Headline: Tractor Work: Mowing and Tilling Cover Crop

My name is David Linebarger and I am the farm manager at a residential treatment facility for adults living with mental illness located 7 miles northwest of Davis on Co. Rd. 96. I operate a half acre vegetable farm plot and I have about half of it in cover crop and winter weeds. I need to have this section mowed, tilled and have beds shaped if possible. I am wondering if there are any farmers in the area who would be willing to bring their tractor to the farm to do this work. Since The Farmhouse is operated by a non profit agency, The Yolo Community Care Continuum, I am requesting donated labor for this, but I am willing to negotiate with the agency to have this work be paid if necessary. Please reply if anyone is interested or has any contacts for me to pursue. Thank you!

Thanks Sarah! Jon Lee built our farm plot last year and I have contacted him, but he seems to be too busy this year to help out. I know Robyn and will get in touch with her to see if she is able to lend her tractor if she has the right implements. I'll get back to you about the tool bar if I need it. We also have an old rototiller I got working but it didn't handle the cover crop after I weed whacked a row because the vegetation got caught up in the tines and wouldn't till it in. It also doesn't drive too well, so it's very difficult to maneuver in the field! Perhaps yours works better and I'll let you know if I want to come tinker with it and see if I can get it running sometime. Good to connect with your farm again; I know Marisol and Karen, and I believe Anna-Ruth maintained some connection with y'all when she was farm manager as I have you in my contacts she left me. Happy farming!

Hi Jennifer! (You will likely get more responses if you post in Conversations, not Classifieds.) We did come across this great UC ANR blog North Bay Dairy Women: 50 Years & Counting, which may lead you to some more 1-on-1 help. Let us know if you need anything else!
