I have Things to Sell

Posted by Pat Bentley  |  Mossy Oaks Farm  |  Napa, CA

Headline: Free roaming chicken flock (@600) for sale

Due to personal health reasons, we are selling our flock of approximately 600 egg laying chickens.

Approximately 75% of the chickens are new layers - various breeds. The remaining chickens are approximately 1 to 1.5 years old. They are free roaming and their main staple is barley sprouts (Fodder), supplemented with oyster shells and feed. Egg sizes range from Small/Medium to Jumbo.

The purchaser of the chickens will have the first dips at purchasing our egg candler/sorter. It sorts eggs into 5 sizes. Wer are currently sorting Small/Medium, Large, XLarge, Jumbo (and Super Jumbo). It will go for general sale once the flock is sold.

Please call Pat for more information, pricing or to make an offer. An exact flock count will take place prior to purchase. Prefer to sell the whole flock at one time. We are currently selling our eggs at a farmers market and local store.

You can also email us at mossyoaksfarm@gmail.com for more information.

Headline: Citizen Science: Free Egg Testing

Request to you:
If you have egg laying chickens, this is the project for you. Watch the video and send in a couple of eggs to UC Davis or drop them off at UCCE Sonoma office!*
Please spread the word to anyone and everyone in California!
What the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine will do:
There is concern about backyard chickens ingesting contaminants from the ground and transmitting these to their eggs. UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine is interested in testing eggs from backyard flocks for various contaminants from recent fires and the environment. Results will be shared individually with each owner, and cumulative results will be summarized and made available to the general public.

For more information on the project, as well as more detailed instructions and examples of how to pack and ship 2-4 eggs, check the UCCE Poultry website.

Have built one hoop house and will do another. The entire area is fenced and then cross fenced. We have two golden retrievers.

We need help with all aspects of the garden especially planting, cultivation and harvesting. We would like to find some one really enthusiastic that loves to garden. We are open to letting you help decide how we do things and what we grow. You could sell produce and help distribute food. We are a couple in our late 50s doing this because we want to grow healthy food. But we can only do so much in a day. We would like to have chikens. We could do a hay and feed store if we wanted to. We like the market garden and Urban farmer models we are studying. The property is zoned commercial and has two
