Subject: Nutrient Mgmt Virtual Field Day: Monitoring nutrient and moisture levels to maximize productivity

Welcome to the Nutrient Management Virtual Field Day! Here is our first topic to kick things off:

Clearly, in limited water situations, monitoring your nutrient and moisture helps maximize productivity. What are your top tips for farms to accomplish this? What monitoring practices do you use? How did you adapt your monitoring practices for the drought?

Below, our featured panelists will respond, and then we invite YOU to share any ideas, tips or questions you have as well.

For bios of our panelists and to learn more about the Series, check out the Nutrient Management Solutions group. This Nutrient Management Series in Times of Drought Series is a collaboration of UC SAREP, FarmsReach and Sustainable Conservation.

Hello Franz thanks for quick http://feedback.We are tracking infiltration depths with GPS moisture probes wirelessly connected to the matched Software package to track improvements. Using either the frequency drivenC2A0 Hydrosmart water systems or the ESP frequency driven water systemsWater Infiltration root zone depth is faster and deeper. On almonds we are seeing approx. 18" deeper penetration infiltration. We will be in Phoenix at the Irrigation show this week. If you are wondering where to get more info go to http://www.hydrosmart.com.auC2A0 Or http://www.customizedwatersystems.comWe own USA distribution support on these non flow restricted water systems. The systems creates scalar energy wetter water with hydrogen bonds broken. Wetter water soaks in the ground faster and breaks up scale into usable root nutrients in high TDS water. Units are all Green http://performance.We are dropping 3 more ESP... Read More

Subject: Make sure your farm or ranch is counted! - USDA Ag Census through June...

"NASS conducts a census of all agricultural operations every 5 years. We need to know about all types of agricultural operations of all sizes. Producers who are new to farming or did not receive a Census of Agriculture in 2012 still have time to receive the 2017 Census of Agriculture report form here, or by visiting http://www.agcensus.usda.gov and clicking ‘Make Sure You Are Counted’ through June. NASS defines a farm as any place from which $1,000 or more of agricultural products were produced and sold, or normally would have been sold, during the census year (2017)."

Subject: Overview & Resources from the Inaugural CA Farmer Educator & Support Services Summit

In September, UC SAREP & FarmsReach hosted the first CA Farmer Educator Summit in Sacramento. The resulting Top 15 Priority Areas, Directory of Organizations (incl. programs & regions served), Ecosystem Map (where orgs are based/served), and Ecosystem Chart (services offered in each program area) are all covered in today’s blog. It also includes details about the new list-serve for CA farm-focused organizations, collaborative fundraising strategies, and other priorities identified during the meeting.

The Summit built on momentum from the Farm Education Network (FEN) started on the Central Coast and on results from the January 2015 strategy session hosted by FarmsReach and Multinational Exchange for Sustainable Agriculture (MESA) in Pacific Grove, CA.

If your CA farmer organization hasn’t already done so, please fill out the Farm Education Network survey. UC SAREP and FarmsReach will periodically

Headline: Wayside Farm School Seeks Instructor

Wayside Farm School Introduction

Wayside Farm School is an intensive, sustainable, agriculture education program operated by Five Keys Schools and Programs under contract with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. The Farm School rests west of the Castaic Hills along Castaic Creek, just north of the majestic 10,000 foot San Gabriel Mountains and the Santa Clara River. Farming on as much as 200 acres of fertile, sandy loam dotted with century old oaks, it is not uncommon to see a dozen student-workers pushing seeders, laying drip tape or forming beds with an old John Deere tractor. The program trains inmates in all aspects of sustainable farming through the hands-on operation of a diversified vegetable, fruit and herb farm. In addition, the farm raises laying chickens, grows hay and makes 40 cubic yards of compost every month out of food and landscape waste generated by the expansive facility.

Headline: Farmers looking for a used tractor

Hello,

My name is Will Nelson and my partner, Erica Gassmann, and I are owners of The Bear & The Bee, an organic farm and apiary. We just moved to El Dorado County from New England and are in need of a tractor. The diesel fuel injector pump just died along with the clutch in the pto on our current tractor. We are looking for used 4x4 diesel tractor preferably 35 hp or more. We haven't had much luck on craigslist or with used dealerships. We are on a tight budget and short on time. Any information or leads would be much appreciated. You can call or email: 925-819-2363. Thank you.

Will and Erica
