Online & In-Person – Pastured and Free-Range Poultry Workshop: Poultry Nutrition Basics and Egg Quality

The Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program's Pastured / Free-Range Poultry Project presents this three-hour workshop as part of a five-part series that is offered live and online. This session focuses on design and material considerations for coops, as well as regulations for free-range and pastured poultry, and it will feature round-table discussion among farmer speakers who will shed some light on what the economics of pastured poultry farming as well as some marketing techniques that have worked well.

Poultry Nutrition Basics (Dr. James Hermes):
This talk will discuss poultry nutrition with a focus on some of the challenges of pastured and free-range poultry. Dr. James Hermes is a faculty member at Oregon State University who focuses on poultry production and nutrition.
Egg Quality:
This talk will focus on how to evaluate table eggs internally and externally in order to ensure egg quality.
